I deleted Facebook

sales and marketing time management May 26, 2022

Last week I decided to delete the Facebook app from my phone as I was finding myself feeling anxious as I was scrolling through my feed.

The world is an odd place right now and I realised that it was not helpful for me to be continuously bombarded with news and opinions about Covid and the government's response to it.

And to be honest, I was on Facebook just too darn much. There is an addictive element to social media, right? I think we can all admit that. I was feeling that I may have crossed the line.

I run a significant portion of my business through my member-only Facebook group, and through my free group for bookkeepers The Business of Bookkeeping. So I'm not really going anywhere.

But when I access Facebook from my browser on my office computer I have the News Feed Eradicator Chrome add-on, and I also have a Social Media bookmark folder in Chrome with links to all my favourite Facebook groups so I can go straight to them without being distracted by the news feed.

Taking some time to decompress and be more present and in the moment when I'm not working has been refreshing. It's been interesting to see how often I go to pick up my phone to "check-in."

One of the things that I have noticed is that Instagram has replaced Facebook in some ways. I don't feel the same anxiety from Instagram, but it's still a habit that i'm trying to break.

The question always is, "is this helping or hurting me?" Or is it neither helpul nor hurtful but just a waste of time.
