Scared of looking bad on video?

These days I’m pretty comfortable with taking videos of myself and even with going Live on Facebook or Instagram. I hit record and say what’s on my mind.

But trust me, it wasn't always that way.

I used to be so nervous. There was no way that I would go Live. Heaven forbid! I was sure I would make an idiot of myself.

So I'd record a video instead so that if I made a mistake or stumbled over my words, or forgot what I wanted to say, I could stop and try again. There were many blooper reels with me pulling faces at the camera or blubbering incomprehensible words, or swearing at the camera as I got it wrong yet again.

Most times, what I posted was the 3rd or 4th or even 5th or 6th version. And even then it was never perfect but it was good enough, and I had to get comfortable with good enough.

Video is an important piece of your marketing suite and I'm going to echo every marketing person out there who says that you really should do it. Video helps to authentically portray you and your business and it gives people a good understanding of who you are and what it would be like to work with you.

But I get that it can feel really scary!

The reality is though that it's just about practice, and more practice, and about getting comfortable with the uncomfortable until it becomes comfortable. 

If you’re not utilising video as part of your marketing suite of tools, then I’d like to challenge you to give it a go!

To start with, just do what I did and record a video (you don’t have to go live straight away!) and then if it doesn’t suck, post it. The more you do it, the more comfortable you’ll get.

Or have a go at an Instagram Story - these stories disappear the next day, so if it really sucks, it doesn’t matter anyway!!!

The thing to remember is that bookkeepers have a voice and wisdom to share, and we need that out there. The more smart, savvy voices there are talking words of wisdom about business and about the impact of having a bookkeeper within a business, the better off we will all be.

You have the potential to create a massive impact. So let’s hear it!
